Dominique Breton

Dominique Breton was born in Saint-Lô, Manche, on April 17th 1951. She had a happy childhood along with her two sisters, a brother, her parents and her grandmother. Her spiritual foundations came from her grand mother who also inspired her love of nature.

After college studies, she attended the Beaux Arts School of Rouen in 1969 where she studied with Robert Savary. In 1970 she met Franck Innocent at the famous outdoor market place Clos Saint Marc and from him learned the art of painting out of doors. After she graduated from the Beaux Arts School she worked with him until he died in 1983. At his request she has served as the executrice of his art and his philosophy of art. By doing this, she took on a double career : her own and that of her mentor.

The writer Hervé Bazin, her faithful friend, encouraged her to pursue her own artistic way and Roger Monteil helped her organize her first exhibition in Paris in 1977.

Dominique Breton married Michel Mariscal in 1985 and they have two children : Sophie and Guillaume.

Today she lives in Quincampoix near Rouen, the capital of the region of normandy. Her studio is located within her garden which gives her the serenity she needs for her art.

She still prefers painting outdoors to maintain direct contact with her subject. She especially enjoys panting at the seaside near the home of her mother who lives in Barneville-Carteret, Manche.

For twenty years she has been advised by Guy-Patrice and Michel Dauberville, managers of the Bernheim-Jeune Gallery in Paris.
